Pacific Nanotechnology Announces Improved Nano-R™ AFM System for R&D Applications

Enhanced Nano-R™ features expanded sampling range, higher performance, and easier usability, providing the capabilities required for common to advanced lab applications.
Santa Clara, CA -- April 14, 2003 -- Pacific Nanotechnology, Inc. (PNI), the global leader in high-performance, easy-to-use, and affordable atomic force microscopes (AFMs), today announced it has shipped an enhanced Nano-R™ AFM system for R&D and industrial lab environments. The Nano-R™ is the only AFM that offers high-performance, ease of use, and affordability. This combination is enabling researchers to perform both ground-breaking nanotechnology developments as well as routine AFM tasks.
"The tool incorporates the latest developments in PNI's product roadmap," explained Paul West, vice president of products and chief technology officer for PNI. "Many of the enhancements to the Nano-R™ are the result of working closely with customers who have been using Nano-R™ for significant nanotechnology research. As a result, the improved Nano-R™ will provide even more applications in areas such as metallurgy, nanoparticles and powders, filters, semiconductor and data storage, photonics, and adhesives."
Higher performance is achieved through both hardware and software enhancements to the tool. The new sample holder has an improved design to accommodate many sample sizes and thicknesses for scanning. The standard sample holder is for standard magnetic disks, and customers can fabricate their own sample "pucks." The enhanced Nano-R™ AFM offers an advanced probe exchange mechanism that facilitates the process of exchanging the tip. The tool also features a new applications programmer interface (API) to National Instruments' LabVIEW™, the industry standard data acquisition and instrument control software for customization capabilities.
